SEPTEMBER 23: Listening without having to have the same experience
Creating workplaces, communities and everyday spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and able to be themselves.
Today is International Day of Sign Languages, a chance to celebrate the richness of sign languages and the Deaf communities who use them, while also reminding us that communication is about so much more than simply speaking and hearing.
We don’t need to share someone’s experience to listen to it, value it or make space for it. Inclusion means we stop expecting everyone to communicate in the same way and start thinking about what people need to participate fully.
From captions and accessible information to different ways of sharing ideas and being heard, small changes can make a significant difference. Today, we’re exploring how listening, accessibility and a willingness to understand can help create workplaces where everyone has a genuine opportunity to communicate, contribute and belong.

This webinar explores the structural and cultural conditions that determine who is seen as a leader, and challenges how institutions define, reward, and retain leadership. It asks what it takes to occupy leadership spaces when they were not designed to be inclusive especially for racially marginalised people and what must change within organisations to make leadership genuinely equitable.
This session is not about ‘inviting’ people into leadership. It’s about interrogating the gatekeeping practices, racialised expectations, and hierarchies of legitimacy that shape who gets to lead and how they are treated when they do.
