SEPTEMBER 30: You don’t have to be the same to belong together

Creating workplaces, communities and everyday spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and able to be themselves.

It is natural to feel drawn towards people who are similar to us. Shared experiences, interests and ways of thinking can make connection feel easy, but belonging becomes something much more meaningful when we realise that we do not have to be surrounded by people who are just like us in order to feel that we have a place.

Our workplaces bring together people with different personalities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and those differences can sometimes be the very things that help us see beyond our own way of thinking. Creating a sense of belonging is about creating enough space for people to be different while still feeling connected to something shared.

Today, we’re exploring why you don’t have to be the same to belong together, and how embracing difference can help us create workplaces where connection does not come at the cost of individuality.

Black History Month: The Audacity To Occupy Space: Reimagining Leadership Through an Equity Lens

This webinar explores the structural and cultural conditions that determine who is seen as a leader, and challenges how institutions define, reward, and retain leadership. It asks what it takes to occupy leadership spaces when they were not designed to be inclusive especially for racially marginalised people and what must change within organisations to make leadership genuinely equitable.

This session is not about ‘inviting’ people into leadership. It’s about interrogating the gatekeeping practices, racialised expectations, and hierarchies of legitimacy that shape who gets to lead and how they are treated when they do.
