SEPTEMBER 3: The quiet signs that someone feels left out

Creating workplaces, communities and everyday spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and able to be themselves.

 

Not all exclusion is obvious.

Sometimes there is no awkward silence, no deliberate rejection and no clear moment when someone is made to feel unwelcome. Instead, it can appear hidden within everyday conversations, familiar routines and spaces where, from the outside, everything seems perfectly fine.

Someone can be present without feeling connected, included without feeling valued and surrounded by people without feeling that they belong.

Today, we’re looking beyond the obvious signs of exclusion and thinking about the quieter experiences that can so easily go unnoticed, while exploring how a little more awareness, curiosity and intention can help us create spaces where people do not simply have a place, but genuinely feel that they belong.

Because sometimes belonging begins with noticing what others have stopped saying.
