SEPTEMBER 20: Why Community Matters More Than Ever
Creating workplaces, communities and everyday spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and able to be themselves.
Belonging is not just about feeling included, it’s about having a community around us. The people we can laugh with, talk to, learn from and turn to can make a huge difference to how connected and supported we feel.
For some people, particularly men, building meaningful friendships in adulthood can be difficult. Work, family life and expectations around masculinity can all create barriers to connection. There are emerging organisations creating spaces where men can connect, talk and build genuine friendships but we can all take daily steps to help create and grow our communities.
Community doesn’t happen simply because people are around us; it grows when we create opportunities to connect. Today, we’re exploring why community matters and what workplaces can do to help more people find their place and feel that they belong.

This webinar explores the structural and cultural conditions that determine who is seen as a leader, and challenges how institutions define, reward, and retain leadership. It asks what it takes to occupy leadership spaces when they were not designed to be inclusive especially for racially marginalised people and what must change within organisations to make leadership genuinely equitable.
This session is not about ‘inviting’ people into leadership. It’s about interrogating the gatekeeping practices, racialised expectations, and hierarchies of legitimacy that shape who gets to lead and how they are treated when they do.
