NOVEMBER 2: part of bEing a woman

Giving voice to the unspoken, courage to the conversation and power to the stories that deserve to be heard.

“It's just part of being a woman.” A phrase so many women have heard when describing pain, exhaustion or symptoms that affect their everyday lives, often leaving them wondering whether what they're experiencing is simply something they should learn to live with. But when discomfort becomes normalised, it can be all too easy for health concerns to go unheard.

New research published in October 2026 found that, among more than 6,600 people with autoimmune diseases, women were nearly 75% more likely than men to report having their physical symptoms incorrectly diagnosed as psychosomatic, highlighting a troubling difference in how health concerns can be interpreted. As we begin our first week of Breaking the Silence, we're exploring why women's health experiences have so often been minimised, the impact of being dismissed and why something being common should never mean it isn't worthy of understanding, investigation or support.
