August 31: What We Learnt
This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.
As we reach the final day of this series, we have explored the many pressures parents can experience throughout the summer holidays, from balancing work, family life and finances to finding time to rest while trying to create meaningful moments with the people we love.
Along the way, we have been reminded that family wellbeing is not created through perfect plans or endless energy, but through care, connection and the small ways we continue to show up for one another.
Today’s final post looks beyond what we do for our children and considers what they learn from watching us. They notice how we respond when life feels difficult, how we speak to ourselves after making mistakes and whether we allow ourselves space to rest, laugh and experience joy.
They also have a wonderful ability to notice the things adults can easily miss, inviting us to slow down, be curious and embrace a little (or a lot of) silliness along the way.
Because when parents look after their own wellbeing, they give their children permission to do the same — and perhaps one of the greatest gifts we can offer is showing them that a life is joyful.
