August 11: Asking For Help

This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.

 

Yesterday, we talked about recognising the signs of overwhelm before they become burnout. We acknowledged that parenting can sometimes feel incredibly heavy and that noticing when we're struggling is an important act of self-awareness. But recognising those feelings is the beginning and for many of us, the next step is the hardest.

Asking for help isn't always easy which means that many of us find ourselves carrying far more than we need to.

Today's blog challenges the idea that good parents do everything alone. It reminds us that accepting support isn't a sign of weakness or failure, it is a sign of honesty, courage and self-compassion. Because none of us were ever meant to carry the weight of family life entirely by ourselves, and sometimes the strongest thing we can do is simply say, "I could do with a little help today."
