SEPTEMBER 29: The ripple effect of making someone feel welcome
Today, we’re exploring the ripple effect of making someone feel welcome, and how the experiences we create for others can shape the culture around us in ways we may never get to see.
SEPTEMBER 28: WEEKLY REFLECTION - What Does Belonging Look Like In Action?
Today, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what belonging looks like in action, and how we can recognise the signs of a workplace where people genuinely feel they have a place.
SEPTEMBER 27: Inclusion is something we practice
None of us will get inclusion right every time, and perhaps that is part of the point. Creating more inclusive workplaces is an ongoing process of listening, learning, noticing what could be better and being willing to make small changes along the way. It is less about reaching a perfect destination and more about the direction we choose to travel in together.
SEPTEMBER 26: Building spaces where people can be themselves
Today, we’re exploring what it takes to build spaces where people can genuinely be themselves, and why giving people room to be different can create stronger, more open and more human workplaces.
SEPTEMBER 25: Small Acts Can Change The Feeling Of A Room
Today, we’re exploring how the smallest acts can change the feeling of a room, and why the atmosphere we create together matters.
SEPTEMBER 24: The Courage To Include Someone
Today, we’re exploring the courage to include someone, and how those small moments of intentional inclusion can help create workplaces where more people feel seen, valued and genuinely welcome.
SEPTEMBER 23: Listening without having to have the same experience
Today, we’re exploring how listening, accessibility and a willingness to understand can help create workplaces where everyone has a genuine opportunity to communicate, contribute and belong.
SEPTEMBER 22: Belonging Begins With Curiosity
Today, we’re exploring how a little more curiosity can help us create workplaces where difference is welcomed, perspectives are valued and more people feel there is space for them to belong.
SEPTEMBER 21: Weekly Reflection - How We Can Make More Room For others
Today, we’re taking a moment to ask how we can we make a little more room for others. In our workplaces and wider communities, we will not always share the same opinions, experiences or perspectives, but respectful communities do not require us to agree on everything. They ask us to approach one another with curiosity, kindness and a willingness to make room for voices and experiences beyond our own.
SEPTEMBER 20: Why Community Matters More Than Ever
Community doesn’t happen simply because people are around us, it grows when we create opportunities to connect. Today, we’re exploring why community matters and what workplaces can do to help more people find their place and feel that they belong.
SEPTEMBER 19: The Hidden Exclusion of Everyday Spaces
We often move through our working day without giving much thought to the spaces around us. We walk into the office, join a meeting, make a coffee, sit with colleagues and move from one place to another, assuming that these everyday experiences are more or less the same for everyone. Today, we’re exploring those everyday spaces and experiences that can unintentionally exclude, and how becoming more aware of them can help us create workplaces where more people can participate, connect and feel that they truly belong.
SEPTEMBER 18: Accessibility Is An Act Of Belonging
Today, we’re exploring why accessibility is such an important part of belonging, and how small changes can help more people feel welcomed, included and able to participate.
SEPTEMBER 17: There is Space Here For you
Today, we’re exploring why representation matters, what it can communicate about belonging and opportunity, and why creating genuine space for people means looking not only at who is in the room, but who has the opportunity to shape what happens there.
SEPTEMBER 16: Belonging Should Not Depend On BEing The Majority
Today, we’re exploring what it means to create workplaces where difference does not determine belonging, and how each of us can help build environments where people feel that they have a rightful place, whether they are part of the majority or one of the few.
SEPTEMBER 15: Who gets to feel at home?
Today is International Day of Democracy, which gives us a timely opportunity to think about participation, representation and the importance of having a voice in the decisions that affect our lives. While democracy is usually considered in terms of society and government, the principles behind it can also make us pause and think about our workplaces, where participation can help people move from simply being present to feeling that they are genuinely part of the organisation they work for.
SEPTEMBER 14: What Makes a Workplace Feel Welcoming?
As we come to the end of another week, it feels like a good moment to pause and think about what inclusion actually feels like in our everyday working lives. We have explored the importance of feeling safe enough to speak, the difference between being invited and genuinely heard, and the role leaders can play in creating belonging. As we reflect, we can look not only at what our organisations are doing, but at the small moments we each have the power to influence, because sometimes the culture of a workplace is shaped just as much by an individual interaction as it is by a formal policy.
SEPTEMBER 13: How Leaders Create Belonging
Today, we are looking at the role leaders can play in creating workplaces where people feel that they belong, not because they have learned how to conform, but because they know their differences, experiences and perspectives are welcomed as part of the organisation. Making sure people know that there is a place for them at the table and that their voice matters when they get there.
SEPTEMBER 12: The difference between being invited and being heard
Today, we're looking at how we can move beyond simply inviting people to the table and create workplaces where people know that what they bring to that table truly matters.
SEPTEMBER 11: Feeling safe enough to speak
Today we’re looking at why psychological safety matters so much in the workplace. Making sure everyone feels that they can ask a question, admit that they have made a mistake, suggest an alternative, raise a concern, ask for help or respectfully challenge an idea without worrying that doing so will lead to embarrassment, exclusion or damage to the way they are perceived.
SEPTEMBER 10: Being yourself, not someone else
Today is about creating the kind of spaces where people feel safe enough to be real, where differences are welcomed rather than questioned, and where children grow up knowing that they do not have to perform, pretend or change who they are to deserve a place at the table.
Because we want to create working environments that say - “You don't have to pretend here.”
