August 7: Reflection - Resetting Expectations
This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.
As we reach the end of our first week together, we'd like to invite you to pause.
Not to think about everything that still needs organising or all the plans you hope to fit into the weeks ahead, but to take a moment to reflect on how you're feeling and recognise everything you've already done.
Over the past few days, we've explored the pressure to create the "perfect" summer, the guilt that so many parents quietly carry, the invisible mental load of family life, the comparison created by social media and the exhaustion that can come from constantly putting everyone else's needs before our own. If there's one message we'd like you to take away from this first week, it's that you were never meant to carry all of those expectations alone.
Today's reflection is an opportunity to reset. To let go of the pressure to be everything, to notice the moments that have already mattered and to begin the next week with a little more compassion for yourself. Because sometimes the most important things we can change are the expectations we've been placing on ourselves all along.
