This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.
Throughout our previous series, we explored how social media can shape children's confidence, influence the way they see themselves and create unrealistic expectations about what life should look like. We encouraged parents to help young people question what they consume online and to remember that behind every carefully edited post is a much more ordinary reality. But those reminders aren't just for children.
As parents, it's surprisingly easy to find ourselves comparing our own family life with the polished snapshots filling our social media feeds, particularly during the summer holidays. The perfectly planned adventures, the smiling family photographs and the seemingly endless days of fun can leave us wondering whether we're doing enough, spending enough or creating enough memories.
Today's blog takes a step back from those expectations and reminds us that the most meaningful parts of childhood rarely fit neatly into a social media post. Because while the internet may celebrate the highlight reel, it's often the quiet, ordinary moments of love, laughter and connection that children remember for a lifetime.

This interactive session explores the rich and diverse heritage of South Asian communities in the UK, with a personal focus on the British Pakistani experience. Drawing on the facilitator’s family history, including their grandfather’s Windrush-era migration, the session highlights the resilience, cultural expression, and challenges faced by South Asians across generations.
Topics include migration journeys, language and generational gaps, living between two cultures, the importance of religious celebrations as moments of identity, and the ongoing challenges of under-employment despite educational achievements. The session fosters understanding, celebrates cultural pride, and encourages authentic allyship and inclusion.
