August 24: Looking After Your Own Mental Health Too
This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.
As September begins to move closer, much of the attention naturally turns towards helping children prepare for the return to school. We think about how they are feeling, listen to their worries and try to make the transition from summer freedom to school routines feel as calm and manageable as possible. Yet, while parents are often busy supporting everyone else, their own feelings about the change can easily be pushed aside.
The end of the summer holidays can bring relief, sadness, exhaustion, uncertainty or a mixture of emotions that are difficult to explain. For some parents, the return of routine may feel welcome after weeks of balancing work, childcare and family life. For others, September may bring new pressures around finances, schedules and the demands of the school term, while the passing of another summer can be a reminder of how quickly childhood changes.
Today’s blog is a gentle reminder that parents experience transitions too, and that looking after your own mental health is not separate from caring for your family.
Because as you help your children adjust to the changes ahead, you deserve the same patience, understanding and space to find your footing.
