Cultural Calendar takeover: April awareness Days, Religious Festivals and Cultural Observances

April is a month of cultural calendar club takeover!

April is one of the most diverse and interesting months in the cultural calendar, featuring a wide range of awareness days, cultural celebrations, religious festivals and international observances recognised around the world. From global awareness events such as World Autism Awareness Day, World Health Day and Earth Day to religious celebrations including Easter, Passover and Vaisakhi, April offers many opportunities for organisations, schools and communities to learn about different cultures, raise awareness of important causes - and celebrate!

Cultural calendars are increasingly used by workplaces, educators and community groups to help plan diversity and inclusion activities throughout the year. By recognising cultural observances and awareness days, organisations can create more inclusive environments and encourage learning about different traditions, cultures and global issues.

Religious Festivals in April

April often includes several important religious festivals depending on the year and lunar calendars. These may include:

  • Easter (Christian)

  • Passover (Jewish)

  • Ramadan (Islam – sometimes falls partly in April - but not in 2026)

  • Vaisakhi (Sikh)

  • Orthodox Easter

Recognising religious festivals is an important part of building inclusive workplaces and communities, as it helps people understand and respect different cultural and religious traditions.

Planning Events Using a Cultural Calendar

Many organisations now use cultural calendars to plan events, awareness campaigns and diversity initiatives throughout the year. Activities might include:

  • educational workshops

  • cultural food days

  • guest speakers

  • charity fundraising

  • awareness campaigns

  • cultural celebrations

  • themed workplace events

Using a cultural calendar makes it easier to plan activities in advance and ensure a wide range of cultures, communities and causes are recognised throughout the year.

Why Cultural Awareness Days Matter

Cultural awareness days and international observances help highlight important social, environmental and cultural issues that affect people around the world. Many of these days are recognised by the United Nations or international organisations and focus on themes such as health, education, equality, environment and cultural heritage.

Celebrating cultural observances can help organisations:

  • promote diversity and inclusion

  • educate employees and students about global cultures

  • recognise religious holidays and cultural traditions

  • support important social and environmental causes

  • create engagement through events and activities

A cultural calendar provides a useful way to keep track of these important dates throughout the year.

Mental Health Awareness Week: Beyond Coping: An Open Conversation About Mental Health at Work

How we talk about mental health at work matters - and so does how we listen, show up, and create environments where ourselves and others feel seen, heard, and valued.

In this 60-minute session for Mental Health Awareness Week, Solène Anglaret invites you into a reflective and practical conversation about mental health and inclusion at work. Together, we’ll explore:

What mental health means and the many ways in which we look after ourselves and each other (or sometimes don't...)

What makes mental health inclusion a fundamental part of workplace culture, and how we can each contribute

How our identities - such as gender, race, class, and neurodivergence - shape our experiences of mental health and access to support

With a mindful welcome, space for reflection, and clear takeaways, this session will open up a meaningful conversation about mental health at work.
