OCTOBER 5: The People Who Make A Community
Using lived experience to celebrate our communities, share their stories and build greater understanding.
Communities are shaped by people, and often the greatest influence comes from those who would never think of themselves as leaders. Through consistency, connection and simply being there, their everyday contribution can have an impact that reaches much further than they ever realise.
This week, as we continue Honouring Our Communities, we’re celebrating the people at the heart of them and the influence that can grow through seemingly small acts over time. We’re beginning with the people whose names may never make the history books, but whose presence can become part of somebody else’s story for years to come.

This webinar explores the structural and cultural conditions that determine who is seen as a leader, and challenges how institutions define, reward, and retain leadership. It asks what it takes to occupy leadership spaces when they were not designed to be inclusive especially for racially marginalised people and what must change within organisations to make leadership genuinely equitable.
This session is not about ‘inviting’ people into leadership. It’s about interrogating the gatekeeping practices, racialised expectations, and hierarchies of legitimacy that shape who gets to lead and how they are treated when they do.
