August 1: Supporting Parents Through The Summer Holidays
This month is an invitation to challenge our way of thinking. Let’s Talk Honestly About the realities of family life during the summer holidays.
For many families, the summer holidays are a season of excitement, laughter and making memories together. But alongside those moments of joy can come a very different reality for parents and carers. The juggling act of balancing work, childcare, finances, household responsibilities and the pressure to create a "perfect" summer can leave even the most organised families feeling stretched.
Throughout July, we focused on the world our children are growing up in and how we can help them become resilient, compassionate and confident young people. This August, we're turning our attention to the people guiding them every day. Because supporting children's wellbeing also means recognising the wellbeing of the adults who love and care for them.
Today's blog introduces a month dedicated to encouraging, supporting and celebrating parents. It's a reminder that looking after yourself isn't selfish, lowering your expectations isn't failing and creating a meaningful summer doesn't require perfection. It’s about showing our children what balance, kindness and self-compassion look like in everyday life.

This interactive session explores the rich and diverse heritage of South Asian communities in the UK, with a personal focus on the British Pakistani experience. Drawing on the facilitator’s family history, including their grandfather’s Windrush-era migration, the session highlights the resilience, cultural expression, and challenges faced by South Asians across generations.
Topics include migration journeys, language and generational gaps, living between two cultures, the importance of religious celebrations as moments of identity, and the ongoing challenges of under-employment despite educational achievements. The session fosters understanding, celebrates cultural pride, and encourages authentic allyship and inclusion.
